10. Chi makes new acquaintances
This episode noticeably widens Chi's social circle by bringing her into contact with new characters, giving the series a chance to introduce or develop some of the secondary figures who will grow in importance as the story continues β Hideki's classmates, neighbors, or acquaintances met by chance in Tokyo life. These encounters allow for multiple perspectives on Chi: each new character reacts differently to her presence, ranging from kindly curiosity to polite indifference to a more insistent fascination, sketching in the process a nuanced portrait of how the society of Chobits perceives its most singular Persocoms. The episode also continues to develop Hideki's own dynamic, torn between pride at introducing Chi to those around him and a kind of instinctive protectiveness in the face of sometimes overly insistent stares she draws. On a more structural level, this proliferation of social interactions lays the groundwork for the arcs devoted to secondary characters who will play a growing role in the second half of the series, while enriching the realistic texture of the world imagined by CLAMP, where the presence of Persocoms permeates every aspect of daily life without ever ceasing to question the boundary between object and full-fledged individual.
