The prodigy classmate
Minoru Kokubunji
Computer genius, Yuzuki's owner
A classmate of Hideki's at the prep school, Minoru Kokubunji immediately stands out for his serious, almost austere bearing, and for a family fortune that sharply contrasts with the precarious circumstances of those around him. A computing prodigy as a teenager, he designed and built his own Persocom, Yuzuki, with his own hands, and has grown so completely attached to her that he gradually cuts himself off from any other relationship, human or otherwise. His story functions as a distorted mirror of Hideki's: where Hideki builds with Chi a relationship of mutual discovery and openness to the world, Minoru instead shuts himself away in a protective bubble with Yuzuki, refusing the complications and wounds inherent to human relationships. This dynamic makes him one of the series' most complex characters: neither antagonist nor mere foil, he embodies a possible drift in attachment toward Persocoms — an emotional dependence that, while offering immediate comfort, also deprives whoever surrenders to it of genuine emotional growth. Across the volumes and episodes, his journey directly questions the limits of what it means to love a machine programmed never to contradict or disappoint its owner, and his relationship with Yuzuki gradually evolves, offering one of the richest secondary arcs in all of CLAMP's work on this central theme of the series.
