24. Someone just for Chi
The last episode of the series, whose title marks a significant shift from the twenty-three before it: for the first time, it is no longer "Chi" who is the active subject of the title, but someone β presumably Hideki β defined in relation to her, as being "just for" her. This simple grammatical shift alone sums up the entire journey traveled by the two characters since the first episode: from a relationship initially defined by Chi's dependence on Hideki, the series closes its loop on an acknowledged reciprocity, where Hideki's commitment to her in turn becomes the center of attention. This episode ties together all the narrative threads woven throughout the series, offering a resolution both emotional and thematic to the central question raised as early as the first episode: what truly defines love, and can that love fully exist between a human being and a Persocom capable of learning to feel? True to the spirit of CLAMP's original manga, the animated adaptation chooses to end on a note steeped as much in melancholy as in tenderness, refusing the ease of a too-neat conclusion in order to fully embrace the complexity of its founding premise. A finale worthy of the journey it caps, one that fittingly closes one of the most endearing works in CLAMP's catalog.
